A Love Letter to Books! 📚

Original date 12/19/2024

There’s something magical about the smell of a new book, the crisp sound of turning a page, and the weight and feel of holding a book in your hands. My love for reading didn’t start with a bang; it was watching my mother who was an avid reader, her love of books and how she would get lost in one once she started reading! We didn’t dare interrupt her down time for reading and she let us know that besides sliced, homemade bread, it was the next best thing in life! As a child growing up, one of eight girls and six boys, I used to love going outside and sitting under a shady tree (our yard was full of trees mostly the native poinciana tree that bloomed with beautiful small red flowers during the summer) with one of my favourite books and journals, to enjoy and pass time.

From the moment I discovered the adventures in “The Chronicles of Narnia” as an introverted child, I knew books were my escape, my teachers, and my friends. I vividly remember the day I read “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” for the first time, tucked away in our treehouse, even in the heat of summer. (Our father was a master carpenter and had build us a treehouse in a big poinciana tree that was in the front of our yard). Each book I’ve read since has been a journey through different worlds, times, and minds. Whether it’s the heart-pounding suspense of a thriller, the profound insights of non-fiction, or the poignant beauty of poetry, reading has enriched my life in ways I could never have imagined.

I’ve found solace in books during tough times growing up. Reading offers comfort when you need it most. The joy came in losing myself in a narrative, like when I stayed up late nights to finish “The Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series,” completely caught up in what the next clue was and unable to put them down until the last page was turned.

I love how each book, each page, each word can change how you see the world. It’s not just about the story; it’s about the experience, the journey with the characters, and the lessons learned along the way. Like when “To Kill a Mockingbird” not only entertained me but reshaped my understanding of empathy and justice.

For anyone who hasn’t yet fallen in love with reading, I encourage you to give it a chance. Start with something that piques your interest, be it biography, science fiction, romance, or history. There’s a book out there for everyone. For those who share this passion, let’s keep the conversation going. What book has left the most significant mark on you? Let’s share our stories and perhaps, our favorite reads.

Here’s to more pages turned, more stories lived, and more worlds explored. Happy reading, everyone!
